Zircon together with Sillimanite is part of foundry, ceramic and refractories minerals. It is typically found in placers joint with other beach sand minerals where it is usually the more expensive (rare earths excluded).
While Sillimanite reaches a melting point of 1700 °C Zircon withstands 2300 °C, thus it is said sillimanite is poor man0s zircon and it is possible to realize blends of the two minerals to contain the costs. Zircon applications can be accounted as 60% ceramics & refractories and 40% foundry.
IGM has different grades of Zircon sourced from several areas in order to grasp the best break even in terms of price/quality and transport /energy constraints.
Typically zircon is divided between Standard Grade (65% ZrO2 purity) and Premium Grade (>66% purity). IGM has access to both grades granting minimum monazite presence for a healthier and safer manipulation and use as per best industry practises.
