Rutile mineral belongs to titanium bearing group given its high natural content of TiO2 . Of the same group are part also leucoxene and ilmenite.

Rutile has the highest TiO2 in the group given its older formation.

Ilmenite decaying over time naturally transforms into leucoxene and later in rutile without human intervention by refining TiO2 content.
